CIMED & Flemingsberg Science strengthen the ties between research and business in Flemingsberg
We at the Flemingsberg Science Foundation have launched a crucial development program this spring in 2023 to enhance collaboration opportunities between research infrastructures and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in Flemingsberg. This initiative is a collaborative effort with CIMED (Center for Innovative Medicine) and Karolinska Institutet.
The impetus for this development program stems from the insights gained from the Stockholm Life Tech project, which identified significant potential to strengthen both research infrastructures and businesses on the Flemingsberg Campus. Within the framework of Stockholm Life Tech, a guide was developed to provide support throughout the entire process, from preparation and development to execution.
Our work with research infrastructures and SMEs is immensely important, given that there are over 20 research infrastructures on the Flemingsberg Campus supporting high-tech basic and translational scientific research. Additionally, there are approximately an equal number of companies within the Life Science sector. The campus boasts expertise in areas such as imaging, bioinformatics, cell therapy, and motion analysis. These research infrastructures constitute a vital part of the campus’s unique resources for clinical and translational research. Therefore, we saw significant potential in developing the services of research infrastructures and fostering collaboration with companies in the Life Science sector.
The program’s goal is to enhance collaboration opportunities between research infrastructures and SMEs in Flemingsberg, aiming to strengthen the attractiveness of the Flemingsberg Campus in terms of research, businesses, and research infrastructure.

Project Plan 2023-2025
- Introduction meetings and planning.
- CIMED, KI, and the Flemingsberg Science Foundation conduct a selection process among the research infrastructures at Campus Flemingsberg, and 1-2 research infrastructures are annually admitted to the operational development program.
- Operational Development Program. The Flemingsberg Science Foundation collaborates with the research infrastructure to build a program and leads the process from initiation to completion. External resources (e.g., business coaches) are brought in as needed.
- Evaluation – The project is annually evaluated by CIMED and the Flemingsberg Science Foundation.
