The move into Framtidens laboratorium – Laboratory of the Future – is currently underway at Campus Flemingsberg. This is where Karolinska Institutet is gathering several institutions and research hubs under one roof. The shared research environment is set to promote co-operation between different disciplines and fields.

Laboratory of the Future has been the working name for the ANA8 building at Alfred Nobels Allé 8 on campus. ANA8 will serve as the new main building for Karolinska Institutet (KI), and home to advanced labs for all ongoing cutting-edge research. One of the goals of the rebuild was to increase co-operation between the various research disciplines and KI courses themselves.

“We strongly believe that increased co-operation with more natural meeting places will be positive for today’s translational research. Shared infrastructure encourages new ideas and greater co-operation,” says Lars Frelin, associate professor and co-ordinator of Laboratory of the Future ANA8, Karolinska Institutet.

“Students should also feel that they are at the heart of a world-class research environment. So the step from education to research can feel less daunting for those who want to continue their career in academia.

Similar environments have also been created in the newly constructed Neo on Campus Flemingsberg and Biomedicum at Campus Solna. Common infrastructure means that advanced technology platforms and costly equipment can be used by larger numbers and drive improved
