A Groundbreaking for 800 New Student and Research Apartments at Campus Flemingsberg

Today, the first groundbreaking was held for Byggvesta and EQT Exeter’s 800 new student and research apartments right in the knowledge-intensive Campus Flemingsberg, with the business community just outside the door.

Flemingsberg is not just a place on the way but a place on its way.
Interest in developing Campus Flemingsberg was sparked back in 2017 when Byggvesta entered into an agreement with the Clara Foundation for property purchase. This marked the beginning of the project to build 800 apartments in Flemingsberg. We are now pleased to announce that the first groundbreaking has taken place to further strengthen Campus Flemingsberg as a thriving innovation environment and a central hub for research and education.

“It feels absolutely fantastic to finally get started. Three years feels like a long time, but now we are finally here. Housing is what is needed to create a vibrant campus area and to encourage people to stay on campus, and Flemingsberg is somewhat unique because there are so many stakeholders, property owners, and educational institutions in one place,” said Marcus Nyström, project manager at Byggvesta.

An Expansive Area
Byggvesta has long had a specific focus on growth and student areas, where they have identified a demanded need for new and attractive housing. In the first phase, which has now begun, 417 new apartments are expected to be completed by 2026.

“Today marks an important step in the right direction. In the joint development program that guides us in our work with this urban center, it states that Flemingsberg should be the place where knowledge and creativity meet, and it’s hard to imagine anything better than student and research housing to take a step towards that vision,” said Emil Högberg, kommunalråd Huddinge kommun.

Flemingsberg is currently undergoing a phase of rapid development, where new rental housing and apartments are helping to strengthen the area’s attractiveness as a residential, education and research hub in southern Greater Stockholm. The expansion of housing is an important part of the long-term development of Campus Flemingsberg and the surrounding area.
