Welcoming more culture and creative industries to a growing place

On August 29, the Royal Swedish Opera and the Swedish National Dramatic Theatre opened their new studios in Flemingsberg with a festive mix of song, poetry and inspiring conversations about collaboration. The opening marks an important milestone in Flemingsberg’s development and brings us one step closer to the vision of creating a place where knowledge and creativity meet in southern Stockholm.

The fact that the Royal Swedish Opera and Dramaten are establishing themselves here in Flemingsberg is a central part of the journey towards becoming a cultural and creative hub. During the opening ceremony, the Minister for Culture, Parisa Liljestrand, joined representatives from the Royal Swedish Opera, the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Fabege and Huddinge Municipality, symbolizing the broad collaboration behind Flemingsberg’s development.

“We are incredibly excited to finally welcome the staff and operations of the Royal Swedish Opera and Dramaten to Flemingsberg and bring the building to life. The development of the district is based on a mix of academia, business, and culture, which will strengthen the entire Stockholm region. We look forward to the continued work of the Opera and Dramaten in sparking interest both in Swedish performing arts and in the creative and artistic professions that contribute to their creation.” – Anna Nyberg, Head of Business Development, Fabege.

Visitors also had a unique opportunity to step “behind the scenes” and take part in the magical environments where the performing arts take shape. Here we got an insight into the artistic and craftsmanship process that lies behind the magnificent stage environments.

“The opening of Dramaten and Operans workshops puts Flemingsberg on the map as a place to be reckoned with when it comes to culture in the Stockholm region. Even though it is only now that the theaters have really moved in, we have already been collaborating for several years on art and cultural experiences in schools. Our common goal is to reduce the distance from Flemingsberg to the performing arts centers at Gustaf Adolfs torg and Nybroplan for our children and young people.” – Anja Dahlstedt, Director of Culture and Leisure at Huddinge Municipality.

This is a significant moment in Flemingsberg’s development, strengthening it as a dynamic meeting place for culture, creativity and innovation. Flemingsberg is not a place along the way, but a place on the way.
