Together for the medicine of the future – Karolinska ATMP Centre and ATMP Centre Uppsala strengthens collaboration in advanced therapies

A letter of intent has been signed between the Karolinska ATMP Center and the ATMP Center Uppsala to deepen collaboration in the field of advanced therapies (ATMP). The initiative was celebrated with a joint kick-off at the end of October, where hopes for new research breakthroughs and benefits for patients were in focus.

“What we are doing today is not the beginning of a journey – it is a continuation, where we build strength through community, lay the foundation for new treatments, methods, and ways to save lives, ensuring that no person, no patient out there, is left alone,” said Aida Hadžialic, Regional Finance Commissioner of Stockholm, speaking at Uppsala University.

Together with Helena Proos, Chair of the Regional Executive Board in Uppsala, Aida Hadžialic officially announced the deepened collaboration. The aim is to strengthen the shared capacity and competitiveness of the Stockholm–Uppsala region, with the long-term goal of positioning the region as one of the world’s leading life science hubs. Together, the two centers will combine expertise and resources for joint research, production, and clinical application. The parties will also cooperate on educational initiatives, knowledge exchange, and sharing of experiences, as well as strengthen international partnerships and collaboration with micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to promote innovation and growth within the ATMP field.

The day’s program also included presentations showcasing the breadth and depth of ATMP research and clinical development in the regions – from CAR T-cell therapies to transplantation collaborations and much more.
