Capital of Life at Nordic Life Science Days: Spotlight on Stockholm–Uppsala

Earlier this year, Region Stockholm and Region Uppsala adopted a joint life science strategy. The strategy brings together stakeholders from academia, business, healthcare and the public sector, united by a shared ambition: to develop Stockholm–Uppsala into one of the world’s leading life science clusters.

Within the strategy is the Capital of Life initiative, that brings together all stakeholders and supporting organizations to contribute to its implementation through long-term, strategic collaboration. At this year’s Nordic Life Science Days, the initiative came together to showcase the region’s strengths, highlight central questions for continued development, and engage with the national and international life science community.

“Together, we are strong. Nordic Life Science Days was a fantastic opportunity for all of us to come together and showcase the initiative and what makes Stockholm–Uppsala unique. Flemingsberg is an important part of Capital of Life. Here, research, healthcare, companies, and research infrastructure are closely located. My role is to connect companies with the right expertise, infrastructure, and partners so that they can develop and grow.” says Natasha Bank, Cluster Manager at Flemingsberg Science, who participated in the Capital of Life booth at Kistamässan.

During the conference, conversations and discussions focused on how the regions can continue to strengthen their position in life science together – from research and innovation to establishments, investment and international competitiveness. Presentations and discussions were also held in the joint booth and on stage, bringing together companies, researchers, investors, and other ecosystem stakeholders. Among the topics discussed were ATMP as area of strength, health data and precision medicine, as well as the medtech ecosystem.

Flemingsberg Science Foundation has, through Huddinge Municipality’s engagement in the strategy, been involved in the work from start.

“We are already underway with several important initatives to help put the strategy into practice. Through our Establisment Office and and the Life Science Cluster Flemingsberg project, we are creating attractive innovation environments and meeting places, marketing, and actively working to attract new life science companies to establish themselves, says Johnny Högberg, CEO of Flemingsberg Science.

New Initiative Strengthens Stockholm’s Game Industry – SEK 11.5 Million Invested in the Press Start GameTech Initiative

A total of SEK 11.5 million is now being invested in the development of Press Start GameTech Hub – an initiative aimed at strengthening the GameTech sector in the Stockholm region. The project is led by the Flemingsberg Science Foundation and Södertörn University and will run from September 2026 to 2029.

Press Start, a GameTech initiative based in Flemingsberg, is expanding its international reach by establishing a presence and building new connections in Silicon Valley. This development is made possible primarily through our Cluster Manager, Leslie Alfredsson, who has been admitted to study at Stanford University this summer.

Can games change how we understand mental illness in young people?

What if a game could help young people understand why they feel unwell? That was the idea that sparked something in Lars Klintwall, a child psychologist at BUP and associate professor at Karolinska Institutet. By combining psychology and games, he wants to shift the focus from diagnoses to the individual’s unique network of problems, and give patients tools to recognize how negative spirals emerge.
