Strong brands choose Flemingsberg

Kungliga Operan AB and Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern AB have signed an agreement with Fabege to relocate their operations from Gäddviken in Nacka to Flemingsberg. The agreement constitutes the start of the next phase in Fabege’s urban development plans in Flemingsberg.

Fabege will create theaters’ studios and workshops (containing forge, carpentry, painting and wallpaper), two rehearsal rooms and costume warehouses in a brand new building of approximately 12000 sqm which is expected to be completed in 2024. Both the Opera and Dramaten have a mandate from the state to care for and further develop the craftsmanship of their studios and workshops, a tradition that has been practiced since the 18th century and they look forward to new premises that enable both preservation but also the development of the multi-hundred-year-old craft tradition.

– Now the ambitious plans in Flemingsberg are starting to become concrete. The planning program has been in consultation and our first major rental agreement is now in place. We are of course pleased to share the news that the Royal Opera and the Royal Dramatic Theater are choosing to place parts of their business right here, says Stefan Dahlbo, President and CEO of Fabege.

In the vision for Flemingsberg, urban developers want to create a vibrant neighborhood with a mix of culture, higher education and business. Here are opportunities to reach a new audience and attract interest in Swedish performing arts.

– Flemingsberg has so much to offer. Here people from widely different cultures, the creative, the academic and the business community in a regional city center are on their way to becoming a city. The fact that the Opera and Dramaten move parts of their operations here is truly gratifying and an important puzzle piece in creating a neighborhood that lives around the clock. Our ambition is to start the detailed plan as soon as possible in 2020, says Malin Danielsson (L), municipal council responsible for community building issues.

The new building in the Regulator 1 block will be certified according to BREEAM-SE, the agreement is a green lease and the financing will be green, in line with Fabege’s sustainability goals. Construction is expected to start in 2022.
