GameHub Flemingsberg: A New Initiative to Create the Gaming Cluster of the Future

Flemingsberg, 2025-03-06

The Flemingsberg Science Foundation is launching a business development program in collaboration with Drivhuset Stockholm, associated partners, and Södertörn University as a first step in establishing a gaming cluster in Flemingsberg. The project, named GameHub, aims to facilitate the creation of new gaming companies and strengthen Flemingsberg’s position as a center for game development.

The gaming industry is one of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly growing sectors. In 2023, the global gaming industry generated over $200 billion USD in revenue, making it larger than both the music and film industries combined. Sweden is a key global player, with the Swedish gaming industry reaching a turnover of 34.6 billion SEK (dataspelsbranschen.se, 2024).

In other words, Sweden’s gaming industry is a fast-growing sector with enormous potential. However, many gaming students lack the entrepreneurial tools needed to commercialize their ideas. Drivhuset Stockholm, which supports student entrepreneurship, sees an opportunity to bridge this gap through targeted activities that strengthen students’ ability to develop their games into successful businesses.

“The vision for GameHub is to become the heart of game development in Flemingsberg — a place where serious games are not only created but also developed to drive innovation forward. Here, we are building a cross-sectoral environment where creative industries, life science, and deep tech intersect. By focusing on entrepreneurship from day one, we are shaping the future of the gaming industry — making it more innovative, dynamic, and sustainable,” says Leslie Alfredsson, Cluster Developer and Business Coach at Drivhuset Stockholm.

The initiative builds on the strong foundation of established game development programs at Södertörn University and Stockholm University, which provides a solid base for the program’s success. Through activities and support aimed at gaming students, the GameHub business development program aims to generate more gaming companies in Flemingsberg, while also creating a vibrant meeting place for game development and entrepreneurship.

“It is through collaboration and strong local engagement that we can build something sustainable. Together with Drivhuset Stockholm, our associated partners, and Södertörn University, we see great potential in establishing Flemingsberg as a natural hub for game development,” says Johnny Högberg, CEO of the Flemingsberg Science Foundation.

GameHub is part of a broader initiative to create a gaming cluster in Flemingsberg — an international hub for game development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Drivhuset Stockholm will lead the GameHub project and participate in the joint establishment of the gaming cluster in Flemingsberg by organizing events and networking activities.

The project’s activities will largely be tied to Innovation Station in Flemingsberg, where future startups within the gaming cluster will also have the opportunity to establish and grow their businesses.

The project is made possible through Drivhuset Stockholm, Södertörn University and the Establishment Office, where the Foundation Flemingsberg Science’s Associated Partners (Fabege, Hemsö, and Huge) as well as Huddinge and Botkyrka municipalities are involved.
