Johnny Högberg Summarizes 2025 – A Year of Growth and Collaboration in Flemingsberg
We are most effective and make the greatest impact when we engage our founders and leverage their size, organizations, and influence, and we still strongly believe in this. At the same time, the fact that we have grown as an organization has also made a difference. Today, we are exactly the kind of “two-pizza team” that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos highlights as the most effective. Among other things, we are now running two cluster initiatives and creating a level of engagement, buzz, and content that is noticeable in Flemingsberg and is actually helping to change the area.
This engagement and the initiatives we are driving are clearly visible in Flemingsberg, but what has actually happened in 2025, and what has the foundation been working on specifically during the year?
In February, the foundation launched a dedicated life science office in the Novum building, in connection with the start of the Cluster Engine Life Science Flemingsberg project. As a result, the community and its activities have grown significantly, and the visibility and awareness of Flemingsberg have increased markedly. New companies have established themselves, and a unique concept featuring an integrated co-lab and coworking space has been launched.
In the growing city, Alfa Laval has now moved into its newly built office and innovation center. The company’s impact on Flemingsberg is already noticeable, and collaboration with campus stakeholders continues to develop.
The initiative around the establishment office—where our associated partners Hemsö, Huge, and Fabege work together with the business development offices of the municipalities of Huddinge and Botkyrka to increase the pace of new establishments in Flemingsberg—has over the past year demonstrated the strength of acting together. A good example is our participation at Nordic Life Science Days in Gothenburg, where Flemingsberg truly stood out and was likely the most visited booth at the event.
2025 was also the year we launched a new cluster initiative in Flemingsberg. Press Start Game Hub is built on Södertörn University’s programs in game development, with the cluster initiative focused on creating conditions that support new game ideas in reaching the market and enabling game studios to establish themselves. The initiative also aims to explore how game methodologies and technologies can be applied to develop other fields, such as the life science industry. The response has been overwhelming: the community has grown rapidly and now engages game enthusiasts from across the Stockholm region. Business support, boot camps, playtests, and pitch competitions are among the activities carried out in collaboration with Drivhuset and Södertörn University.
It is incredibly rewarding to see the construction projects currently underway, some of which will be completed around the turn of the year. Huge Bostäder is transforming Flemingsberg Centrum into a modern and attractive retail destination and is building new housing directly adjacent to the center, where new services and restaurants are opening. On the campus area, EQT Real Estate is developing the Blick Living concept, with 800 apartments tailored for young professionals, students, and researchers.
Flemingsberg continues to evolve, and we at the foundation see collaboration between stakeholders increasing every year—we call ourselves the Flemingsberg family. We meet regularly, we work together, and we celebrate together. Next year, we will take new steps forward!
And for 2026.. Let’s be brave!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
/Johnny Högberg
