When Region Stockholm needed to manage patient numbers according to healthcare capacity, they turned to Sebastiaan Meijer, professor in healthcare logistics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. A forecasting tool is now ready based on historical data and interviews. The use of such tools is becoming increasingly relevant in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Work on a Swedish vaccine for the coronavirus is in full swing at Campus Flemingsberg, although it differs from other vaccines being developed around the world. If successful, the Swedish vaccine could also help combat future pandemics.
This was the first year a joint open day could be held for all courses at Campus Flemingsberg. But as the corona crisis hit, six months’ preparation was on the line. However, digital solutions offered an alternative.
The Flemingsbergsdalen development program creates the necessary conditions needed for thousands of new jobs, homes, business opportunities, entertainment and services. Building work on the Royal Swedish Opera and the Royal Dramatic Theatre’s new production center will begin in 2022.
KTH is one of the universities set to receive government support in the wake of the corona crisis. Around an additional 700 places in foundation technology courses at KTH Royal Institute of Technology will make it easier for more people to retrain. Resources will also be allocated to establish more permanent course places.

This year’s winner of the Södertörn Social Cup startup competition was recruitment service Rektra, which uses AI to make recruitment fairer and more efficient.
Since September last year, Swedish Radio station SR P4 Stockholm has had a local editorial team based at Södertörn University. The initiative is part of the station’s comprehensive local news coverage in the region. It also creates opportunities for educational co-operation with journalism training at the university.
