Campus Flemingsberg is a key and integrated part of the growing Flemingsberg area. Flemingsberg is set to be the Stockholm region’s only fully-fledged higher education cluster, offering study, residential, services and cultural opportunities all within close proximity.

Regional hub becomes urban university area
Around Flemingsberg station and new travel hub, Flemingsbergsdalen is flourishing alongside international business and research hub Stockholm South Business District. This is a centre that is set to attract up to 50,000 workers, 50,000 residents and 50,000 visitors. Flemingsberg is one of the largest development projects in Sweden, with investments totalling some SEK 60 billion. Flemingsberg is evolving from regional hub to urban university district.

Six universities, 18,000 students

Campus Flemingsberg is Sweden’s eighth largest campus with some 18,000 students. Here you can read everything from medicine and healthcare to economics, law, political science, engineering, music, journalism and art. Campus Flemingsberg is also one of the few places in Sweden where you can train to become a police officer.

Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge is one of Europe’s largest university hospitals. Together with Karolinska Institutet, it is a leading medical hub of considerable international standing. Proximity between services in the Campus area drives increased co-operation between educational institutions and the hospital that seeks to achieve synergies between healthcare, education, research and innovation.

Campus Flemingsberg is a vibrant and multi-disciplinary campus, offering a unique mix of higher education, research, knowledge-intensive companies and healthcare.

Campus Flemingsberg

Södertörns University offers around 70 programmes and 250 courses. Teaching and research is conducted in the humanities, political science, engineering and science. Police and teaching training is also provided in an intercultural environment. A substantial proportion of research focuses on the Baltic region and Eastern Europe.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Future physiotherapists, dentists and nurses train here, and successful research is conducted into Alzheimer’s, cell therapy and regenerative medicine.

KTH is Sweden’s largest university for technical research and training, attracting students and researchers from all over the world. At its Flemingsberg site, KTH offers foundation courses in engineering and high school engineering courses in medical technology, and three-year engineering courses in computer science, electrical engineering and engineering and economics. Foundation courses and a variety of master’s courses are also available.

Red Cross University College has recently located to campus in the newly built Technology and Health building together with KTH. It offers courses for nurses and specialist nurses, as well as science-based healthcare research with a global perspective.

University College of Music Education in Stockholm (SMI)is the latest addition to the raft of universities in Flemingsberg. SMI offers pedagogical courses in primarily music, voice and speech, as well as dance and movement. In 2017, SMI moved from central Stockholm to Campus Flemingsberg and into new premises ideally suited for music and dance. SMI conducts teaching in close co-operation with local and regional actors, as well as other universities in the academic fabric of Campus Flemingsberg.

Widerströmska College is a municipal high school that specialises in life sciences, (science, engineering, health and entrepreneurship). It is located at the heart of Campus Flemingsberg right in the midst of the researchers, engineers, doctors and entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow. With its premises located in the NEO building, which is shared with Karolinska Institutet (KI), the college’s courses are fully integrated with the universities at Campus Flemingsberg.

Idun Lovén Art School offers two two-year courses, one in sculpture and one in painting. The courses aim to develop students’ capacity to create and think, and to prepare for further study at art universities or to pursue other creativity-orientated education. From the autumn term of 2019, the school provides art and cultural education at Campus Flemingsberg premises.

ByggVesta: new accommodation for 450 students and researchers

ByggVesta is building another 450 new student and researcher apartments at Campus Flemingsberg. The new homes are part of a project for additional premises for education and research on campus. Work is being conducted in co-operation with Stiftelsen Clara.

ByggVesta: 433 homes for students and researchers

In 2017/2018, ByggVestas built the Nobelus student quarter on Campus Flemingsberg. It has 433 student homes ideal for students, PhD students and researchers with or without families. Some of the flats are “buddy-flats” that allow friends to live next-door to one another.

Huge Bostäder: 209 apartments, five retail premises and a pre-school

Huge Bostäder is building 209 homes, retail outlets and a pre-school for 160 children in an entirely new residential area on Hälsovägen in Flemingsberg. The development includes 126 rental apartments and 81 student flats, along with five retail premises and a pre-school with eight classrooms on the ground floor.

BRABO: 120 new apartments along Hälsovägen

Along Hälsovägen in Flemingsberg, BRABO plans some 120 new apartments according to a concept for smarter and healthier living – BRABO aktiv. Residents have unlimited access to a top-of-the-line sauna in the building, and the apartments are planned for an active lifestyle. A parking garage is on the ground floor, which is accessible via a lift; and to the rear of the property, residents can enjoy a green and relaxing park space.

Hemsö and SveaNor: Neo, Technology and Health research environments

Working closely together, Hemsö and SveaNor have built a training and research centre next to Karolinska University Hospital in Flemingsberg in Huddinge municipality. The first building to be completed in the autumn of 2016 was named Technology and Health. The second building to be completed is known as Neo and was finished in 2018.

Akademiska hus: new premises for police training at Södertörns University

Akademiska Hus and Södertörn University have developed new and existing premises for around 700 police students. A rebuild of an existing building and a new building means there is now 12,700 sqm available for teaching. The premises contains shooting ranges, teaching and training halls, administration rooms, changing rooms, storage and a garage.

Akademiska hus: Karolinska Institutet’s new research environment ANA Futura

In 2019, Karolinska Institutet’s new research environment, ANA Futura, opened in Flemingsberg. The rebuilt structure houses employees from four institutions with shared infrastructure and collaboration for translational research and training.

Skanska: Flemingsbergsdalen

Right next to Flemingsberg Station, Flemingsbergsdalen is growing fast. Here, an entirely new city area is being created with offices, homes, residential care, shops and restaurants. When complete, Flemingsbergsdalen will have space for 50,000 workplaces, 50,000 homes and 50,000 visitors. Skanska is building 190 homes, modern and flexible office space and residential care with 80 beds.
